Bighorn Ram face - National Bison Range, western Montana.

Springtime ewe and two yearling lambs, Little Vulcan Mountain herd, Kettle River Valley.

Two of a group of four bighorn rams. Although fierce competitors during the rut, these rams travel together over the winter and when a predator threatens the rams will form themselves into a circle, rear-ends together, each ram facing a different direction to stave off the threat

An early spring grouping of ewe and young rams. This time of the year sheep coats are rough and the animals thin from the ravishes of winter. The most important thing for these creatures now is finding forage to gain strength. Lambing season is about to begin.

BATTLE SCARS
Broken, chipped horns & forehead scars attest to the challenges this ram has faced. Except for the period of rut the mature rams (over three years old) will range together in small groups formed for protection. .
